General Funeral Questions

  • Funerals typically happen soon after death and include the body or coffin, often with a burial or cremation. Memorials take place later without the body present and are more flexible in style and timing. Wakes are informal gatherings held after a funeral or memorial, often with food and shared stories.

  • A living memorial is a celebration of life while the person is still alive. It can be a powerful, emotional, and beautiful way for someone to hear the impact they’ve had on others before they pass.

  • A dual service can mean a ceremony held across two locations (e.g., church then cemetery), or a longer, extended service at one venue. It gives more time for tributes, eulogies, and reflection — especially helpful for cremation services where time can be tight.

  • Yes, but planning and leading your own ceremony can be stressful. A celebrant helps you focus on what matters while ensuring everything runs smoothly and respectfully.

  • A celebrant guides and leads the ceremony, helping craft meaningful words, coordinate with venues, and ensure your wishes are reflected respectfully and professionally.

  • Absolutely. I welcome personal and cultural expressions. We can include candles, music, readings, rituals, or customs that are important to you.

  • A chapel service typically runs for 30 minutes, though this may vary based on venue and content.

 Burial & Cremation Questions

  • Burial involves interment in the ground or a crypt, while cremation reduces the body to ashes. Both options can include a farewell ceremony. Cremation is now the more common choice in Australia.

  • Yes, absolutely. In fact, most services in Australia are cremations, and they can still include a full ceremony before the cremation occurs.

  • If your loved one is present in the coffin, it's a funeral service. If the ashes are present, it's a memorial service. You can choose either depending on timing and preference.

  • Your funeral director will handle logistics like cemetery bookings and permits. As your celebrant, I’ll work with you to plan and deliver a meaningful service — including readings, eulogies, music, and rituals tailored to your family’s wishes.

  • Scattering is not permitted at most crematoriums. Public spaces may require council approval. Private property is generally fine. I can guide you based on your location.
